MIKE'S COMMENTARY AND SOME BITS OF WISDOM:
On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so they can begin their American Dream.
The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations.
We invite all nations to celebrate with Americans online this Fourth of July.
Happy Birthday, America!

A game of baseball
St. Peter and Satan were having an argument one day about baseball. Satan proposed a game to be played on neutral grounds between a select team from the heavenly host and his own hand-picked boys.

"Very well," said the gatekeeper of Heaven. "But you realize, I hope, that we've got all the good players and the best coaches.""I know, and that's all right," Satan answered unperturbed. "We've got all the umpires."

KCnet Photo Club MinutesJune 16, 2008 KCnet Camera Club Minutes
Bill Raco opened the meeting and introduced Taffy Lopes. Taffy is the media manager for the Sentimental Journey. She talked about the Fly-in at Piper Airport, and asked for volunteers to be official photographers for the event. Several club members volunteered. Bill showed pictures from a previous fly-in. Hopefully we will see some of their work.Duane Shaffer showed us some more tips from Kelbytraining.com. These tips were about telephoto lenses. Thank you, Duane!
Bill demonstrated light painting, photos in a dark area with a very long exposures with the subject illuminated with flashlights or laser pointers. We went to the next room and set our cameras on tripods and experimented. We got some unusual and colorful results.
We reviewed the theme pictures of Memorial Day.
There was great variety among the participants; Picnics, parades, cemeteries, and Memorial Day services. We also saw some photos from the Home Town Heroes Celebration. The winners of this month’s challenge, 'Color', were:All the pictures were great. Everyone commented how hard it was to pick a winner because there were many excellent photographs.

NEWS AND NOTES WITH SUE FOUST:
I'm
going to share two of the “pictures of the day." First, I attended
the Lock Haven Farmers Market and noted a new stand this week. The
fresh pies were not there this week (she'll be back next week) but Gummo's
produce stand was there, that's in the foreground and there were 2 others
- one with doggie supplies and one with crocheted kitchen items.
If you know anyone who would like to set up a table and sell items, let
them know there is no charge this year. They just have to register
with the Downtown Lock Haven office at 105 East Main Street before Saturday.
Call 748-1576.
And, today was Best of Clinton County Day! The parade was wonderful. The sidewalk sales were good. We shared a table with Rotary of Downtown Lock Haven, selling soft drink, water and Hometown Hero Shirts. There are shirts left; call Maria at the Downtown Lock Haven office if you are interested - tees and polos.
We distributed refrigerator magnets advertising the Farm Market, too.
This last picture features Dave Foley helping Downtown Rotary and KCnet. Note the crowd awaiting the parade.
We are beginning a new fiscal year next week. With that comes reflections of the previous year and plans for the next. The big project in 2007-08 is our WI-FI service in Downtown Lock Haven. And we are only just begun! Plans for our next year's projects include expansion of the WI-FI service throughout the City, into Flemington and Castanea. Another large leap in our services is the DSL service in Lock Haven and places east of Lock Haven. While it isn't available everywhere, it's growing. There will be more areas eligible for the service as time goes on. Getting DSL from KCnet means no contract to lock you in for one or more years and our help desk and technical assistance when you need it. Our original wireless service is still available, too. It goes where DSL doesn't and many places where cable and DSL are available but our members prefer wireless. You don't need cable TV or a phone line to get our wireless Internet service. Until next time… KCnet Board Of Directors Officers:
President Bill Raco, Vice President Bob Rolley, Secretary Jon Ahrens,
Treasurer Don Miller and Past President Judy Yoho. Other members
of the board: Carolyn Carl, Lori Hoy,
